Chapter 1 - Prologue

Jones held the door with all of his might. The weight of an undead grown man was too much for the young boy.

"You're going to need to run" Jones mutters, his voice shaky.

The young girl glared at him, her entire body shaking in fear.

"I... I can't… I can't leave you!"

Jones looks at the door one more time, a tear dropping down his eye, quickly wiping it off.

"I'll catch up, sis. I always do."

The young girl gave him one last look. Fear, Agony and exhaustion. The 3 expressions she wore. The girl took off sprinting, the hallway seemed endless.

Jones held the door as the gnarling creature clawed at the door. Something once human, now a mindless beast. Are they after human flesh? Or the human soul?

Jones cannot hold the weight anymore and the door collapses onto him. The beast growled and chomped at Jones, trapped under the door.

"Over here, you freak!" His sister called out.

Jones' eyes widened in shock and fear.

"No! I'm under here! Get me!" He screamed.

The beast roared, a sound of gurgling blood and a lost voice. The beast sprinted; its eyes locked onto the young girl.

Jones tried to push the door off but couldn't do it. His sister turned around and ran for her life, the sound of her shoes echoing in Jone's head. His only thought was his sister's safety.

Jones was flat under the pressure of the boarded door. He pushed and pushed but nothing was successful. He sat there for hours. All he could think about was his sister's safety.

Finally, footsteps approached from around the corner. The members of his camp, marching like soldiers.

"Under there!" A camp member shouts, pointing right at Jones.

The camp members sprint over, one man grabbing each side of the door and lifting.

"Are you alright?"

"Where is she? Where's Kayla?"

The men holding the door glanced at each-other.

"You... You lost her?"

Jones' face drops, going from relief and excitement to fear, guilt and anger.

"I told her to run… She lured the roamer away." Jones' voice began to crack and fade.

Before anyone else could speak, footsteps and light groans began to get louder and louder.

Jones' sister turned the corner, her body mangled. What was once all Jones had now reduced to a husk, a soulless beast. Whatever was left of Kayla didn't even look at Jones.

It just hissed.
