Chapter 1 - Chapter 01: Born to be Cast Out

---

In a bustling city, in a certain neighborhood a certain guy is in his room using his laptop to read manga.

The most notable thing is that it's One Piece.

"Damn, I am not even surprised anymore with Loki looking this cool, and damn it's like Loki and Thor from the Norse myths became one," Josh Samson said after reading the recent chapter of One Piece manga where Loki's backstory started to be uncovered. He was Prince of Elbaf and surprisingly the brother of Hajrudin, who wasn't considered a prince like Loki due to his mother being an outsider.

Then came the little bits of Loki's backstory — how his mother literally threw him from the day he was born from the Sun World, which is on top of the gigantic Treasure Tree Adam, down to the underworld which is the ground below the tree! And he not only survived the fall, he defeated the beasts there and made a climb as an infant!

What followed was the giants of Elbaf started to attribute anything bad happening to him, and thus was born the Curse of Loki who was called the Accursed Prince, and later the Shame of Elbaf.

"Hats off, I don't even know who had the most sad backstory, him or Kuma. But both are cool, and I have to admit beside King, he got a pretty sick design and thankful he also didn't skip legs day," I commented, going through some fan discussion about the recent events of the manga, joking about how many buff guys had short tiny legs.

"Hmm, what's this? People believe Imu turned King Harald to a demon because they think his silhouette appears to have a horn and some sort of extension on his shoulders? Seriously? Like it's all there in the portrait of King Harald, the thing that seems like a horn is actually his mustache bro, and that extension on the shoulders is part of the cape he's wearing. What you should question is why the guards are stabbing him — it's either they're traitors or they're the ones who are controlled."

One discussion after another, he scrolled through them. Most focused on Loki, some on Shanks and Shamrock, others about Blackbeard, etc...

"Hmm?" Curiously, Josh stopped at a survey that popped up in an ad and curiously peered at it, reading its content.

> [Do you wish to have an adventure of your life?]

"Hah?" Reading the question with a 'yes' button below, it seemed like a trigger that, once you click it, will lead you to another site or ask if you want to download something.

Josh contemplated clicking it since the ad would take 30 seconds before he could skip it. After a moment, he clicked 'Yes' since he couldn't help being curious.

> [Hello User8956936! What do you think about the world of Mushoku Tensei?]

"What do I think? I think it's quite accurate how humans will abuse their powers no matter what kind it is, and Demons and most of the other races are actually more decent and good-natured. But I guess that's because of Human dominance."

I typed my opinion in the bar made for the answer.

> [What if you could go to that world, what would you like to be?]

"This is getting weird but okay. I would obviously explore it. I don't think being noble is of any benefits if you aren't in control of your own life. Sure, the money and other privileges are nice, but nothing beats Freedom." Josh typed his casual answer not thinking much about it, 'being a noble would be a pain in the ass, so anything else is better in that regard as long as you're powerful enough of course, after all in such world might makes right.'

> [Let's say you get to choose powers to have in that world, what would you pick?]

"This starts to sound like a survey for fans to write a fanfiction. Alright then, I pick One Piece powers. I know there are other powers that are much better, but I just love them, especially if I can remove the obvious weaknesses of devil fruits, by taking the powers and not the fruit themselves." Josh kept answering questions one after another.

The survey was a bit longer than he expected. It asked a lot of detailed questions related to One Piece and its powers, like race(s) of choice, powers, weapons, etc... They even asked about height and appearance, and all kinds of basic stuff.

Josh was pretty much an expert in One Piece. He literally spent a lot of time on One Piece scaling, powers usage, combinations and he was confident he could create one hell of a character.

He started typing one of his recently created character concepts — a guy who is literally a hybrid between three races: Fish-men, Lunarian, and Ancient Giant adapted to fit the Mushoku Tensei world.

The character had brown skin like King, same white hair with the same hairstyle, and the little face mark/tattoo, with ancient giant black horns sprouting from the sides of his forehead, a physique that is similar to the likes of Loki, King and Katakuri, strong long legs, and muscular upper body, same snake-like eyes of Loki, and of course the upper body tattoo of Katakuri just in red instead of pink, black wings sprouting from his back, and blue flames like the ones Marco has on his back instead of King's normal fire.

He made the character height around 73 meters — a hybrid Ancient Giant should be at least equal or taller than pure Ancient Giants like Oars or their descendants like Loki, whom both are 67 meters.

Followed by experience to which he named probably most of characters who has the best kind of experience that varies, then comes the powers. Of course, the racial powers were included already since he picked those races.

Then comes other powers — first is Haki, and of course he picked all three of them with high end talents so he can be sure to achieve high mastery even in advanced applications.

Then followed by a list of devil fruits powers after specifying no standard weakness is applied, and the list was seriously long, he picked form all categories, and he most certainly abused his knowledge to pick all the best and most useful ones and didn't hold back.

Josh knew he went a bit overboard with this many powers, but he loved a good old overpowered character, and he knew he would love to have even more powers if this was actually real so he held back a bit although he was greedy and picked the most strongest ones.

> [Would you wish to be born somewhere specific?]

"Hmm? Probably not in Asura Kingdom, nor Milis Kingdom. Perhaps the Demon Continent? Or the Ogre Island? Oh! You know what? Let's try something unexplored like Divine Continent, and he might pass as one of the Skyfolk with those wings." Josh pondered a bit, thinking about the places he could choose, before it came to his mind that Sky Continent was unexplored and picked it up.

> [Congratulations User8956936 for completing the procedure! Now initiating transfer of User8956936 to the world of Mushoku Tensei.]

"Wait wha–" Josh was surprised and couldn't even finish his sentence as he felt his consciousness fade away.

> [Good luck, User8956936]

{K369 – First Month of Winter}

Divine Continent, Unknown Village

In a village bordering the cliff, specifically a rather large house, screams filled the air.

"Ahhh!!... Ughaaah!! mmghaaaah!!!" A woman with a bloated belly screamed, trying to push a baby out since she was giving birth.

"Push, Saryel! Just a bit more. It seems like the baby is in a reverse position, so we will have to pull from the legs first," one of three midwives helping the one known as Saryel said while holding her hand.

"I... huff... huff... am doing... huff... my bes–ugh!!" Saryel barely said, taking a few deep breaths trying to push further.

A few hours later, the birth was complete, and the three midwives huddled around a blanket-covered body that was noticeably large, with solemn expressions on their faces, looking at each other.

"S-Saryel... we have a serious problem... T-this... thi-child, it's abnormal," the middle one spoke with a grave tone as the other two nodded, which caused the woman Saryel to be scared that something bad might have happened to the baby.

"I-is something wrong with my baby, Lucyel?" Saryel said in a shaking tone, visibly scared for her child.

"The baby appears to be healthy, but the problem is the baby itself... It looks like a Demon," the midwife on the right said, still trying to process this fact herself.

"Demon!?! How could that be? I never did—never done! And there are no Demon Race even in our lands! How!?" Saryel said frantically, frightened about what this could imply even if she tried to prove anything.

But the concept of having a Demon-like child, even without a Demon parent, in itself scared her.

"Wh-what if this thing is cursed? Our people did not join nor suffer any consequences from the last war. What if this is a curse upon us... We have to do something. Maybe get rid of this being!" the other midwife spoke, also scared and frightened by what this may imply.

"What!?" Saryel yelled, shocked. It was lucky for them that nobody was around, since her husband Lucilius went to Aluce and was not present for the birth, and would only come back two or three days later.

"She's right. Saryel, we have to get rid of it now! Before anyone else finds out — otherwise you might be endangered too!" The one holding the child said with a grave tone after steeling herself.

"B-but—" Saryel felt like complaining, but the midwife turned the baby to face her, which caused her to jump, frightened by its appearance: black horns protruding from its forehead and vicious-looking, slit bright yellow eyes on reddish sclera, like the eyes of a snake. Its skin was darker, with a small patch of white hair.

"G-get that thing away from me! That can't be my child!!" Saryel yelled, backing against her bed, frightened by the baby's appearance.

[Josh POV]:

Josh, who suddenly lost consciousness, suddenly woke up to a bright light — and then some bigger people with what he made up as wings behind their backs.

'What the hell!?!... Where am I!?! Who are these people!?! What in the world happened to me!?!'

I tried to look around, but I was held in something and could only see what's in front of me — and it's a woman, or a giant? And there are others who seem to be talking some nonsense or another language I couldn't understand.

I tried to talk, "ughaba... bawaga! uwagah!!" but only gibberish came out.

'Ok Josh, let's calm down and recount what happened before all of this. Let's see... I was reading the latest chapter of One Piece, then I remem—going through some Reddit posts, reading theories and arguing, then a survey... ad?'

Thinking about the survey — the questions it asked me: powers, race, world, place...

'Oh oh, don't tell me. It can't be possible. Did I just get reincarnated!?!'

To say I was surprised would be an understatement of the fucking century! Who would think such a common trope like reincarnation and Isekai to be real? Absolutely nobody!

Yet here I am, a living breathing example of one. But my situation does not bode well for me, seeing the frightened looks — or what I think it is — being directed toward me, whom I am guessing just got born. And remembering the appearance I picked without consideration, I think it would be an understatement that I might look like a Demon.

If I am in the world of Mushoku Tensei, then it means I might be screwed — since I don't know much except for season one and the little bits of spoils I encountered in Reddit posts from time to time.

---

[3rd POV]:

"Saryel, just rest... You should be very exhausted from carrying this thing, which seems unnaturally large," one of the midwives said, pushing Saryel to lay back in the bed.

"It's unfortunate, but you're not to blame. We will handle the rest," Lucyel said with a sympathizing tone.

"But Lucyel, what should we tell Lucilius when he comes back?" Saryel said, trying not to look at the Demon that came from her — but there was some sort of guilt in her for whatever they would do to it, since she still gave birth to it.

"We will tell him it was a stillborn and stop at that," Lucyel said while leaving her to rest, as the latter kept looking at the door with an empty gaze.

Meanwhile, the trio went out. Lucyel was the one holding baby Josh while wearing a robe to conceal it. She turned to the other two with a cold gaze and spoke with a grave tone.

"Doryel, prepare a fake grave. Maryel, I want you to pick a small animal that is close to his size, smash it well and put it in a bag, then help Doryel bury it. We have to make this look like a real stillborn, so a grave is needed," Lucyel said gravely to one of the other two midwives, who nodded and went ahead to do their part, while she unfolded her wings and flew in a direction.

A while later, Lucyel stood overlooking the edge of their land — the edge of the Divine Continent, standing high above the rest of the world, which made their lands hard to reach for outsiders.

She gazed down the cliff. Anything that fell from here wouldn't survive, no matter what — unless the horrendous Demon in her hands could fly with those underdeveloped small wings.

She flew a good bit away from the edge of the cliff, holding the baby up in front of her, looking at it with cold and disdain-filled eyes.

"I won't dirty my hands by killing you myself, but you will die with the shame you would have brought. At least you will land where your corpse belongs... Demon Continent. I cast you out from our Divine lands down to the Demon lands."

Saying her part, Lucyel held the baby up — and let it go, to fall to a certain death.

---

[Josh POV]:

'What is this lady doing? Why did she bring me here?'

I was wary of her since I noticed a look of disdain in her eyes. I had a feeling she was up to no good — and the fact that none of the others stopped her means they approved.

Suddenly, she held me up. The wind was blowing harshly against my body, and my eyes instinctively looked down — only to realize what she intended to do.

"Nonononon!—" Before I could do anything, she let go and I was free-falling to a certain death.

My only thoughts were:

'Fuck you, bitch! If I do survive this, I won't forget this shit you pulled on me!! EVER!!!'
