Chapter 1 - Subject

Boom!

Ryan was woken up by the loud sound of an explosion.

'What happened?!!'

Ryan opened his eyes groggily.

Boom!

As if one explosion was not enough, a second explosion followed.

Ryan, who was half asleep, opened his eyes immediately. The explosion sound was so near to him and he could also feel the strong vibration that followed, he couldn't help but panic.

Is there a terrorist attack near my house?

Ryan shuddered at that though.

What should I do?

Should I hide and report to the police or should I run away?

But all of his thoughts were shattered into nothingness the moment his eyes took in the surroundings.

"Where am I?"

A hoarse and young voice came out from his mouth, surprising him. But he didn't have the time to think about it as the foreign place he woke up already occupied most of his thinking.

A dim and closed room with a moldy scent. The only source of light in the room was several candles that were hanging above him, flickering in the dark, emitting weak light that was just enough to make out faintly the room he was in.

He was laying in a large flat stone along with many others. His position was in the center of the room where the two flat stones were divided. In the middle of the two flat stones was a table with many unknown devices on top of it.

A crystal ball, a black box, and a round object with many strange symbols and lines that were glowing adorned it, and the last one was a knife.

Ryan narrowed his eyes.

No matter how he looked at the knife, it resembled a surgical knife from his previous life.

Could it be?

Ryan hurriedly opened his clothes and saw a messy stitch on his chest.

Has my organ been removed?

Then, he shook his head. The stitches were on his left chest and quite small, the only organ on that place was his heart. If his heart was removed and he was still alive and kicking, it would be really frightening.

If it was not about his organ, then is it being an experimental subject?

But… there was something even more disturbing. He noticed his skin was too fair for someone his age, also his hands were so small.

He looked to his left and right where many youths were also lying on the stone bed. His mind worked hard to come up with a somewhat reasonable yet unreasonable conclusion.

So… am I transmigrated?

Transmigration was usually done by taking over someone who had already died.

If so, are all of them corpses?

Ryan shuddered and hurriedly used his hand to check the breathing and heartbeat of the youth near him.

Nothing!

There was no breath and heartbeat at all.

He was suddenly dazed with all the illogical things that happened to him. He was just an ordinary worker, he didn't expect just one night of sleep would suddenly turn his world upside down.

Suddenly, he felt a sudden sharp pain in his head that caused him to suddenly crouched down while clutching his head. Moreover the pain was accompanied by a lot of information that caused him to be dazed for a while even after the pain subsided.

After a while, Ryan finally regained his wits. What he obtained was the memory of the former owner of his new body. But the information he could gleam from it was limited. It was because his predecessor lived most of his life in this underground lab. His memory outside the laboratory was only before he reached six years old.

Just how much someone six years old could remember?

Even when one became an adult, the memories of their children's day was hardly remembered.

Even so, he was quite satisfied with what he gained. Along with the memories, he also gained the language of this world. Now, at least he wouldn't have difficulty communicating with someone in this new world. Not to mention he also gained preliminary understanding about his circumstances.

Everything could be described in one word 'he was fucked up'.

He was an experiment subject in a secret laboratory.

Just from the word 'secret' one would know that it was a laboratory that couldn't see the light of the day.

But the thing is, he didn't know the way inside the laboratory. His predecessor's role was just obeying orders and the place he had access to was limited. Not to mention 'he' was carried here as a corpse, which made it impossible for him to remember the way there.

Ryan frowned. It seems the only way for him to get out was to brave danger and unite with other experiment subjects. It was the most suitable way for him and it could give him safety once he arrived outside. But, he didn't know where the others were.

There was also a choice of waiting for rescue, but the risk was too great.

Although he didn't know what was being experimented, seeing that it needed to be conducted in secret, indicated that it was something that was dangerous.

Although there were only about a dozen experiment subjects with him now, he knew there were many before him who had already perished, just the number he knew alone was in the hundreds.

If he was discovered, he was afraid he would become another experiment subject as a fine specimen.

He stood up and began trying to move his body, from his toe to his head. Even though it was not his original body, he didn't have any difficulty controlling it. The only thing he was unused was the body height and the shorter reach of his hand and feet. Luckily with a bit of practice he got used to it.

The experiment also didn't seem to affect his body much, given how he didn't feel any side effects so far. Of course it was just a preliminary conclusion. He still needs to test it thoroughly once he is outside. Now, it was enough as long as it didn't affect his escape.

If only he knew what experiment it was, then it would be easier to test his body outside. Unfortunately he had no clue.

Ryan shook his head and about to go to the door.

Step! Step!

Clack! Clack!

Suddenly he heard hurried footsteps outside followed by the sound of a lock being opened.

He scanned the room and his eyes focused on the scalpel. It was the only thing in the room that could be used as a weapon.

Without further thinking, he hid it in his body and hurriedly lay again on the stone bed.

With a creak sound the heavy door was opened.
