Chapter 4 - 4. Truth

Victor had always been shy in front of unfamiliar adults so when he was rescued by a group full.of people older than him he had tried to be as low-key as possible.

His plan had enabled him to avoid unnecessary attention this entire time but now he had all their attention.

He could feel the weakness slowly spread through his leg muscles as he led everyone up the endless steps of the building they were hiding in.

They had stayed in this building since the previous day when he had been saved as it seemed to be abandoned and well hidden.

So far no attacks or accidents had occurred but now they would have to move because of the lack of resources.

Looking at the black letters next to the steps telling him he was on the fifth floor he took a turn before walking into one of the many dust ridden rooms.

Since the building was abandoned before construction was finished there were no window frames or windows giving the group a clear view of the compound.

Seeing it made their eyes grow wild with excitement as they took in the massive compound with numerous buildings arranged in a circular pattern.

"I don't remember ever seeing that there" Lorna another member of the group commented.

"Me neither, so did you really see it materialise out of nowhere?"Natasha asked placing a hand on Victor's thin shoulder.

"Yes, it was really magical" the boy replied excitedly feeling relieved that everyone now believed him.

Byron threw a glance at the excited boy before quickly turning away wondering how an entire compound could materialise out of thin air.

Looking at it from here he could tell it was built to be a fortress as it had no openings making it the perfect shelter.

But its questionable appearance made him suspicious as he wondered if it was a shelter or a trap meant to draw in ignorant survivors.

Bryan's thoughts went along the same line as he stood next to his brother with a slight frown as they both thought about what to do.

Meanwhile the elderly man who had spoken against Victor a few minutes ago felt self conscious as he avoided everyone in a corner.

"Do you think it is safe?"

One of the many people in the room suddenly asked making the air turn gloomy as they all stared at the compound contemplating his question.

"We can only know that if we go," Bryan suddenly proclaimed.

"We will go, but I will not force any of you to follow me there. So I will give everyone tonight to think about whether you are willing to come with us."

Byron finally spoke up his stance silencing any questions.

His tall figure looked strong and resolute as he walked out of the room leaving no room for questions.

Bryan calmly stared round the room for a second before following his brother out giving everyone a chance to choose for themselves.

As everyone stood there thinking of what to do Net suddenly stirred up from her sleep before sitting up in a daze-like motion.

Looking forward to the sight before her she took some time to think about everything that had happened before she climbed off of the bed.

Her figure almost looked robotic as she walked to the bathroom and took a shower and cleaned up before walking out in a robe.

Walking to the wardrobe she pulled it open and chose her familiar blue uniform before putting it on.

Staring at her reflection in the mirror she took in her appearance before she tapped the screen and exited the room.

Looking around at the familiar restaurant she walked up to the side of the counter before she tapped on the tasks icon which had a red exclamation mark.

More icons appeared with each being distinctly different as one was shaped like a trophy. Another was shaped like a shopping cart.

With another shaped like a book and many more icons that she couldn't even guess their meaning.

Tapping on the trophy icon she was happy to see that she had completed some tasks and could be rewarded.

The first reward was for being able to serve a hundred people and the second one for serving 500 dishes.

She quickly clicked on the reward and was happy to receive what looked like magenta pink tickets with.

After tapping on the second reward she was shocked to discover the tickets were different as the first had the image of a plate of food and the second had a person's silhouette.

Clicking on the third reward for making 100 customers happy she found similar human silhouette tickets.

Before clicking onto the fourth reward for cooking 1000 dishes which had a different silhouette that resembled a book.

Tapping the fifth award she was not surprised to see the different tickets that had the silhouette of coins.

The sixth reward for unlocking a second restaurant had a different ticket that had the silhouette of a map.

Although confused by the different tickets she did not focus on it as she stared at the changed stats that showed that she had to now achieve ten times her previous result to get even more awards.

Feeling a bit more confident she exited the rewards icon before clicking on the home icon which took her back to the restaurant screen which asked her if she wanted to continue.

Her finger was quick as she tapped on the screen to continue already mentally prepared to get tired when a red warning flashed on the screen.

With the words, "No ingredients to open restaurant" written on the warning making her frown as she quickly tapped to exit.

Staring at the screen with ire she tapped on the tasks icon and proceeded to tap on to the shopping cart icon.

A familiar dizzying sensation engulfed her before she found herself standing in a massive wharehouse.

Just looking to her side was shocking as she took in the endless colorful isles of freakishly tall shelfs that were lined in perfect lines.

Directly in front of her stood a massive shelf well stocked and filled with colourfully packaged translucent goods that she could not make out clearly.

Walking up to the shelf she reached out her hand in a bit to pick out whatever was on the shelf before a screen appeared before her eyes.

"Item not available continue with service to unlock"

Staring at the red glaring message she frowned as she walked to the opposite shelf and reached out to something with a different appearance.
