Chapter 13 - Chapter 13

Chapter 13

I looked at him in surprise. "What's your name, and what did you come for?" (Though I could already guess he came for the tournament.)

"Hi, my name is Lucien, and the girl is Diana. We're from the McKay family. I'm the youngest son of one of the family heads, and she's my companion. I don't know much about her, but don't worry—she's a good person. We came for the academy fighting competition thingy," he said with a calm expression.

I noticed that his feet and shoulders were exuding smoke and smelled a bit burnt. "And, umm, can I get some water? Because I'm burning up—literally."

"Don't worry about it," said the girl in his arms as she jumped down. She stretched out her palm, making a ball of water appear out of thin air. She then circulated the water slowly over the burning parts of his body.

"Diana, when did you learn to do this?" Lucien, the boy who I now knew by name, asked his companion.

"I forgot," she replied simply. "I just found out I could do it."

"Okay, don't forget to tell me whenever you learn new things about yourself," he said. Then, turning back to me, he asked, "So, is there an inn where we can sleep for the night?"

"There's one that I know, and the price is affordable," I replied. "Go down the street, take a left, then look on the right side of your path. You can't miss it—it's different from all the houses around here."

"Okay, thank you, stranger. Goodnight."

He turned to leave, and I replied, "Goodnight. I'll head back home now."

As I walked back, I thought to myself, *Well, that boy was strange, and the girl was a little bit stranger.*

I could have sworn I sensed a rogue killing intent from the girl, but it disappeared within a second.

*Well, that's enough strange stuff for one night,* I thought as I made my way home.
