"I didn't hear you come in," she said, not knowing what else to say as her mind was still with Cyrus. "What happened?" she asked.
"I suggest we do it outside," the doctor said, and Selene nodded.
After stepping out of the room, Selene's gaze landed on Cassie sitting on the visitor's bench, her face clouded with guilt.
Selene could feel her anger bubbling deep inside her, as rage raced through her pulse. All she had asked Cassie to do was look after her son like she always did; somehow, she hadn't handled that. Only to be unreachable in the most critical moment? Hell, Cassie had a whole lot of explaining to do. But for now, she needed to focus on her baby.
"So from what we were told by the babysitter," the doctor who Selene could now see was named Max, based on his name tag, said, motioning toward Cassie,
"He had a slight accident at the park from the swing, which led to a cut on his leg," the doctor said.
