Chapter 21 - War against the world

When Sylvia walked away from Kim Hyul, her expression changed.

Her face became devoid of all emotion before she spoke coldly:

"Ail."

A thick cloud of smoke spread out before a small creature emerged.

A small black cat appeared, but what stood out most were its jewel-like red eyes.

"Meow..."

"That person called Kim—I want you to watch him."

"Meow..."

"Don't ever let him out of your sight."

"Meow..."

"You don't need to know the reason, but I feel something strange about him."

The cat bowed its head before slowly vanishing.

---

As Sylvia got closer, a shadow appeared beside the cave.

Liam.

When Sylvia returned to the cave, Liam was waiting at the entrance.

But his expression was a bit angry.

"Hey, Sylvia, why were you late..."

Before Liam could finish his sentence, Sylvia interrupted him coldly:

"Nothing. Just some personal matters."

Liam knew one thing very well—

When Sylvia was in this state,

The best thing to do was to stay silent, because anything else would only make things worse.

Sylvia walked past Liam and headed straight to her bed.

Liam felt something was off about her, but he decided not to ask.

---

On the other side of the forest...

"Can you tell me why Sylvia's personality has changed so much?"

[Sylvia's personality hasn't changed. She's the same as in the game.]

"But some things already happened that weren't in the game at all."

[Threat.]

Kim Hyul's body shivered at that word.

"What do you mean by that?"

[The world sensed that your presence is dangerous. That's why it's trying to eliminate you.]

"And what happens if I interfere with the story?"

[You'll face many consequences.]

"So I have to let the heroines fall in love with their destined partners, right?"

[Yes.]

"I don't want to."

[The system warns the host not to try altering the story, as it will lead to severe consequences.]

"Hahahaha... You know what?"

A terrifying laugh echoed through the forest before absolute silence fell.

Kim Hyul's expression turned cold.

"What will they do if I don't listen?"

[The system warns the host...]

"They can do whatever they want."

[Host, some changes have already occurred.]

"Yes, I sensed that from the beginning."

The appearance of the poisonous salamander near the cave, and also Mad George—but I was wondering:

"If I'm supposed to die at the hands of Mad George, wouldn't I return to the magic circle?"

[Yes, the host is correct. But what if there's a malfunction in the circle?]

"Then I'll die, plain and simple. If I die in this world, that's it, right?"

[Yes.]

The sky was very dark, but the sense of unease still haunted me.

There was only one thing I felt in that moment:

Danger.

Everything around me could become a symbol of death.

And I was also surprised at Mary's change.

That wasn't the usual Mary.

She felt like a stranger.

Her gaze was filled with indifference.

It was a completely different look from the one she gave Liam.

It was like she saw me as a commodity, not a friend.

All I could do was smile bitterly.

I ran my hand through my hair before speaking:

"It's been a long time since I felt this way."

I swear I'll strip you of that cold facade, Sylvia—at any cost.

I was planning to draw Sylvia to my side by pretending to be kind,

But now it looks like I'll have to use force.

Even if the whole world turns against me,

I promise—I won't be the only one who falls.

"If you want to fake affection, I'll show you what faking really means."

"Let's see how far you can entertain me—god, demon, or even the world itself—none of you can stop me."

I grabbed the coat next to me and headed toward the cave.

[Something is watching you.]

"I see..."

I knew exactly what was watching me.

"Ail."

The creature Sylvia would acquire halfway through the story.

I wasn't surprised it showed up early—

I already knew Sylvia was just pretending.

"Just a little longer."

I promise I'll make you kneel, Sylvia.

I'll show you what someone who knows the story can really do.

Even if it takes a year, two years, or my whole life.

I walked slowly toward the cave, many thoughts swirling in my mind.

If Sylvia was acting like this, why hadn't I noticed any changes in Luna or Mary's behavior?

Why were they acting normally?

"I just want you to tell me one thing."

[Confirmed.]

"If Sylvia's personality hasn't changed, and the world is my enemy, wouldn't they just make her hate me?"

[The answer to that question is beyond the host's permissions. But there's only one exception:]

[No matter how powerful the world or its gods are, they have no authority to change human emotions or personalities. But they can change future events.]

[The host must be careful when dealing with the heroines, because some things may happen that cannot be stopped.]

"I don't understand a thing you're saying. Can you explain more clearly?"

Damn you, you lousy system.

But I was truly happy.

If the world can't affect the heroines' emotions,

Then there's still a

chance.

"Damn it."

All I could do was curse.
