Chapter 24 - Chapter 23 : The Strings Behind the Curtain

"Then what, Yuuta?" Saya asked, her voice uneasy.

Yuuta looked at her calmly. "Then you started taking Airi's side," he said flatly.

Saya blinked, confused. "What...? That's... that's something a friend would do," she muttered, almost questioning herself.

He cut her off with a cold smirk. "Don't I? You don't have the guts to stand up for others. You're the class president, but remember that bullying complaint? The one about the four girls?"

Saya looked away.

Yuuta stepped closer, each word sharp. "You knew the victim. She was your childhood friend, wasn't she? Yet, you stood by. Did nothing. But Airi—" he paused, voice tightening, "Airi stood up for her. Airi saved her."

Saya bit her lip. Her silence said more than words.

Yuuta scoffed. "You couldn't even protect a childhood friend. But then you suddenly started acting for Airi's sake? That's when I knew something was off. I had to know the truth. That's why I started dating you."

"W-What…?" Saya looked stunned. "You dated me... because of Airi?"

Yuuta chuckled bitterly. "Every time we went out, I talked about Airi. I praised her. And you—" his eyes locked onto hers, "—you couldn't hide your face. No matter how hard you tried, your expression twisted every time her name came up. You hate her, Saya. You always have."

Saya's lips parted in shock. "You… you're lying…"

Yuuta's voice dropped lower, calmer—but more chilling.

"And then… you gave yourself away. You're the one who suggested the vote to the principal—whether Airi stays or leaves."

Saya's voice was hoarse. "H-How do you know that?"

"You forgot something important," Yuuta said, now smiling. "If a school-wide vote is called, it's the student council that handles it. And guess who the student council president is?"

Saya's eyes widened in horror.

"My older brother," Yuuta said. "He told me everything. That some girl named Saya came asking for a vote."

He stepped closer, voice cold and steady. "And then came the final proof. I talked to the accused girl. She told me it was you all along."

Saya stepped back, breath trembling.

"You know what sealed it for me?" Yuuta thinking "In my original world, there were rumors too. People said it was a jealous girl from Airi's class. So I looked. Everyone was panicking, whispering, wondering who started it... except one person."

He leaned in. "You. Sitting at your desk. Calm. Relaxed. Like you already knew what was going to happen."

Saya's voice cracked. "But... How you helped Airi win the vote. And the video for her. How you convinced Yuzuki!"

Yuuta exhaled slowly. "Fine. I'll tell you. It's exhausting pretending you're clever." His voice was bitter.

"First—the vote. I knew no one would vote for Airi. So I used my trump card. My brother again. He changed the votes. Switched them. Made it look like Airi had support."

Saya froze.

"Second—yuzuki address," Yuuta said with a smirk. "You thought you were smart. School records had old one. But emails—emails always get sent to the latest address. And school report cards go by email too."

Saya's mouth opened in horror. "No..."

"I found her new address. I went there. That's when I uncovered everything. How you told Yuzuki you'd save her from bullying if she helped you get revenge. Airi gets punished, the four girls get their revenge, and Yuzuki gets peace. Two birds with one stone."

He paused for a moment, letting the silence choke the air.

*"But I flipped your plan. You gave Yuzuki a greed of the bullies to help her. I gave her one too. I told her, 'If you want peace, expose them. Get them expelled. And if they try anything, take the evidence to the police. Ruin them.'"

He laughed softly. "At first she hesitated. But every girl wants safety. A place to feel protected. A father. A lover. Someone who says: 'I'm here for you.' I told her, 'I'm on your side.' And just like that… she trusted me."

Saya's knees buckled. Her voice shook.

"You bastard... You toyed with me all this time... If you wanted to spy on me, you could've just pretended to be a friend. Why date me?"

Yuuta's smile faded into something far darker.

"Because there was a reason."

He walked past her, then turned.

"You wanted to break Airi. To isolate her. To make her lose everyone she trusted. And when I asked you out... you were happy. You wanted to see Airi's face when you took something precious from her. You didn't want to love me, Saya. You wanted to steal me."

He took a step back, voice low and final.

"And I let you. Because that gave me a chance. A human heart breaks easiest... when it thinks someone finally understands them. I made you feel admired. Special. Like you were the one."

Saya stared at him, tears running down her cheeks.

"Why...?" she whispered. "Why make me fall in love with you…?"

Yuuta's eyes turned cold. Unforgiving.

"So I could break you. Completely. Crush your heart until there's nothing left. You wanted to see Airi suffer, to make her lose everything. But now, you know how that feels. And unlike Airi… no one's coming to save you."
