Chapter 32 - The tournament begins

Elder Ming went to go schedule a small sect tournament a week from now with some decent rewards. He only allowed people who were under foundation establishment and they had to be under 20 years old. This hyped up quite a bit of people in the sect as tournaments for qi gathering cultivators were very rare. Most of the time sects only did this kind of thing for cultivators at the foundation establishment stage. There are many reasons for this, but the reason this tournament was held was entirely just to test Wu Zhi's abilities and maybe to boost morale. With rewards like spirit gathering powder, spirit stones, and contribution points. The low level cultivators could hardly resist. With most of their time spent cultivating, these kind of students to the sect had just about as much money as beggars. Which meant that the turnout for the tournament was enormous.

"Welcome all to this tournament hosted by me, Gu Ming. With a special thanks to the flying wind sect and the Gu clan for sponsoring this tournament let me give you the rules for todays event. This event will be held over 2 days with many one on one matches between students. Those who win will face a winner of a previous match and those who lose will face a loser of a previous match. Those who lose, will enter into a loser bracket were if they win enough games they can join the winners bracket again later. Those who win will join the winners bracket and face off against other winners, if you lose in the winners bracket you will move on to the loser's bracket, if you lose in the losers bracket then you will be kicked out of the tournament. We will have as many matches as we can today, and your competitors will be chosen by drawing sticks. We will hold all remaining matches tomorrow if we have left over matches from today, and if the finals are decided today then they will be held tomorrow. If you have any questions you may ask a teacher who will be acting as the referee's for this tournament. Without further ado, LET THE MATCHES BEGIN".

And so the tournament started, every participant went to go draw a stick including Wu Zhi.

Lin Long was very excited for this event. He had been practicing for this event ever since it was announced. He desperately needed the contribution points just like everyone else, but honestly he was more excited about how much progress he could make in his cultivation with the spirit stones. Not only could he use them to power his way through the qi gathering realm but he could also use them for resources he desperately needed for his cultivation technique. But that wasn't all, he was pretty sure if he won this event he would attract some attention from the higher level cultivators of the sect. Building fame and reputation could actually bring more benefits than the rewards. If he got a master in the core formation realm he might be able to make it to core formation. The reputation would also do well for him for potentially attracting a dual cultivation partner, the fantasy of every young male cultivator. His future would definitely take a turn for the better if he was able to win this event. And so he was taking no chances and would try his best to rank as high as he could. He bet there were many people thinking the same. '54' he read as he drew his first stick, 'now begins my climb for ascension!' he thought to himself. He found the arena labeled 54 and walked inside its bounds focused and ready for his first adversary to come. his opponent came soon, walking into the arena was a 6 foot 7 inches blonde male. With lean muscles that wrapped around his body, tight like a suit of armor. You could only make out his muscles due to him coming dressed in loose robes to not impede his movement. He had no sleeves while his lower part of his body had some sweat pants with some robes to cover it. 'Great it looks like I have a tough opponent for the first match'. Lin long wasn't worried he tried to identify his opponents weakness from his build and posture. 'Big with lean muscles, probably has a big range with some speed capabilities. Ranged attacks work the best, but because I'm not proficient with those so I'll have to hit fast and hard. Before he can use his superior range to best me in combat'. Lin Long thought to himself. The matched started with a ring of the a bell as a teacher was standing there watching the combat. Lin Long rushed in ready to use his trained body to focus his blows into one spot hoping to end the match in a victory as soon as he could. But before he could get into range to strike his opponent he was slapped so fast and so hard that he instantly passed out before he could even touch his opponent.

"This matches winner goes to Wu Zhi" the ref said.

The next few matches were pretty boring for Wu Zhi. A opponent would come up to arena the match would start, and then he'd slap the shit out of them. Literally, they're were a few times were the contestant would shit themselves after being slapped. It was a pretty bad affair, Wu Zhi even felt guilty for the ones that shit themselves. Yes Wu Zhi could fight them in another manner but he was too lazy to do so. If a slap worked, he would slap. If it didn't work he wouldn't do it. At the age of 14 he wrestled a bear to death. Compared to these fights, these contestants are a joke. Their was no need to fight to the death. Nor was there a need to bring out his real skills.
