Gilles’s eyelashes flickered with unspoken emotion. Weiss, however, remained oblivious to these subtle cues.
“As a servant of House Verdier, I trust that you also have the Duchess’s happiness at heart,” Weiss remarked.
“Indeed, my lord. However, I must admit, I was unaware that His Grace had loved her for so long,” Gilles replied.
“The Duke has always possessed a rather peculiar way of expressing himself, but rest assured, it is the truth. After all, people have their own distinct ways of revealing how they feel.”
“I recall their marriage being arranged quite hastily.”
Weiss chuckled lightly in response to Gilles’s observation. If his suspicions were correct, the Duke had spent over two years preparing for the marriage. “You may set aside your concerns. I can assure you that the Duke is not one to pursue such solemn matters as marriage impulsively.”
