Chapter 9 - 9

Scarlett

"Break my curse." he said. This guy was keeping me in suspense. I was growing impatient but I kept my cool then asked, "How exactly?" "Wear the ring first." he said. I honestly felt he wanted the ring on my finger before telling me what the catch was.

It suddenly occurred to me that he might be scared. He did say I was his last hope. "Are you scared I'll reject you?" I asked. I could feel the sparkle in my own eyes. It's been a while since I caused someone to feel fear, and right now, I was elated that it was from a demon prince.

"No." he shot back immediately. "Then answer me." I smirked. "Wear the ring." he persisted. "And if I decide not to help you what happens to you?" "Guess I'm a deadman."

"Answer me or forget about this." "You can't do that." he scoffed. I suddenly yelled, "Magic air, I don't want to help Starwick Ed-" "No! Shut up!" he said, charging towards me in an attempt to cover my mouth. At that moment, he walked through me.

My eyes widened in shock. I got to my feet. "Y-you're a g-ghost?!" I asked. He signed, "Yes and no. That's why I need you to wear the ring. So I can gain my form." He walked back to where he was standing before. "Just answer me if you truly want to live." "Fine." he growled.

"When you wear this ring, each of the diamonds will illuminate a dim golden light. What your goal is,... is to turn the gold light into a blue light. But before it can be blue, it must first be turned black."

"So how do I turn it black and blue?" I asked curious. "To turn it black, you have to do something that the ring will perceive as very BAD. Emphasis on bad. A kind of badness that equates with evilness; that kind of bad." He continued, "To turn the diamond blue, you have to do something the ring will perceive as CRAZY. By crazy, I mean pure insanity."

He paused, "Are you up for the challenge?" There was a wide smirk on his face and an excited glint in his eyes. It made him look even more breathtaking. "No I can't do this." I said. The expression on his face turned cold. "Why?" he asked. I could feel his anger in my bones. His tone was deadly.

"Wow. You must really wanna live." I joked half heartedly. He took a step towards me and I took one back instinctively. "Answer. Me." His voice wasn't loud but it was deadly. I signed, "Listen, it's not like I don't want to help you. I do,...and all the terms and conditions of this deal,...I love them. They are all to my liking, but if I'm caught, I'm done for. They'll..."

My voice trailed off. I should feel myself shaking in anger. My eyes were welling up. I closed them shut. "They'll kill my mom." I managed to whisper. He looked blankly at me, his expression softening. "I already promised to be of good behavior." I said, a sad smile on my face. "If I do anything to piss off my aunt, she'll rat my mom out. I won't ever be able to forgive myself if I let that happen."
