Maya POV
The black car was back.
I dropped my coffee mug, and it broke on my kitchen floor as I stared out the window. For the third day in a row, the same dark sedan sat across from Pine Ridge Elementary, and the same guy in sunglasses watched the playground through binoculars.
My hands shook as I grabbed my phone and called Lily.
"Maya? What's wrong?" Lily's voice sounded tired.
"That car is here again. The one I told you about yesterday. Something's not right."
"Are you sure it's the same one?"
I pressed my face against the window glass. "License plate KLM-4739. Same as yesterday and the day before. Lily, this guy is watching the school. Watching where Emma would be if she hadn't been suspended."
There was silence on the other end.
"Lily?"
"I'm here. I'm just... scared. After what happened with Emma yesterday, and now this..."
"Where are you right now?"
"At the shopping store with Emma. She wanted to help me pick out ingredients for cookies."
