IN GULUBANE VILLAGE
Royalty's POV
Me: "ok, Mr., stop with the stammering, or you do actually stammer in real life."
"No, I'm so sorry, it's just that I'm shocked."
Me: "Shocked, how, with what exactly."
"To see a beautiful lady in this village."
Me: "Oh, I see. What brings you at my house?"
"Well my name is Hun Whale and I came here to see the chief of this village for a business proposal so on my way from her house that's when this heavy rain started so I came to hide from it".
Yeah, you heard correctly. Our chief is a woman.
Me: "Why couldn't you just stay in your car? I'm a girl and this village doesn't take lately to a girl and a man in a room just the two of them. "
Hun: "You want me to die?"
He said, and I didn't say anything, I just gave him a serious face. He mustn't think I'm joking.
Hun: "You don't stay in the car when it's heavly raining. Anything can happen."
Me: "Yeah, right. As if I care. "
Hun: "cab I please have something to wear, I'm catching a cold here and I'm allergic to water so I might get seriously sick and you....at least have both a beautiful face and heart please if not a good brains".
Me: "Let's go to my bedroom, follow me.
I said after I had looked at him, and he seemed cold. That's true. We got to my bedroom and I took my new drying towel and one of my baggy t-shirts and gave them to him.
Me: "Just put your clothes outside on the door when you are done changing. I'll come and get them."
Hun: "Wait a minute, you are going to leave me alone here? I'm not familiar with the village ghost, please. I'll wake up dead."
Me: "I can't sleep in here with you. What if we wake up late and people see us coming from the same room? We will be in so much trouble."
Hun: "So where are you going to sleep?.
Me: "In my parents' bedroom. "
Hun: "Where are your parents?."
Hun: "I don't wanna talk about it".
I said and slammed the door on his face. I run to my parents' bedroom since it's still raining a little though. I got in and waited for this man to change, when he was done I went pit and took the clothes then came back and put them on this small line that is inside the bedroom where my mother used to put her and my father's towel to dry. After that I slept because I'm so tired and with this weather ypu can't help but just feel sleepy.
The next morning I wake up and this man's clothes were dry.
Me: "Thank God".
I said taking the clothes and exit this room and it's not raining anymore, the sun is out also. I went to my bedroom, knocked and he said a come in so I entered.
Me: "oooh ypu are awake, here are your clothes. Change I need to take my clothes I want to go and wash by the river."
Hun: "not even a morning, can't I at least bath?"
Me: "no ypu can't, listen I have a lot of things to do so just please change and leave".
Hun: "ok".
I exit the room to give him space. After 10 minutes I went back and he was done.
Hun: "I didn't know people in this village don't have a heart, I mean.....".
Me: "Hey stop trying to manipulate nor blackmail me. I told ypu if someone find us in the same room we will be ruined Hun".
Hun: "the way you say my name. Please can you say it again".
Me: "what the f*ck, ypu re insane."
I said taking my my clothes that I want to go and wash, I put them in a big plastic dish and as soon as I get to the door I'm met by this old women from next door and she has her hand on her mouth. I'm doomed.
Me: "mma it's not what it looks like, it's not what it looks like I'm telling the truth".
Lady: "your parents are still fresh in the graveyard and you are already bringing man in their home and sleeping with the. Ypu are a total shame".
Me: "mma it's not like that, he just came.....".
Hun: "let me explain to her, mma she is telling the truth, I just came to....".
Lady: "save it, everyone, come, come and see the prostitute is already showing her true colours. Come everyone, come.....".
Within a few minutes people were already here looking at me. We trued to explain to them but no one believed us until the chief came and she was very much disappointed because she loved me, she saw me as a good child but she couldn't believe me even after I explained to her what exactly happened.
Chief: "I'm sorry but you have to marry her Mr Whale".
Hun: "what! Chief please, I can't marry her, I don't love and I have my girlfriend whome I want to marry so please I beg you".
Chief: "I'm afraid even if I believe you guys I don't have the upper power for this decision. The society wont allow you guys to just go. We have to go to Masunga and you guys can sign in the court."
Me: "mma, please ypu can't make me marry a stranger, please I bag you nothing happened here and we didn't even share the room."
Lady: "if he was a stranger why did you allow him to come inside your bedrrom".
I'm doomed, my life us over.
Chief: "consider your proposal accepted Mr Whale because I want you to take care of my daughter here because she was groomed well. Let's go".
I couldn't even say anything as people were pushing me to get inside the car. Thy didn't even alow me to get changed. Me, Hun and Chief we get in Hun's car and he drove to our police station and we got a police office who was going with us.
In just less than 30 minutes we arrived at the marriage offices and all the way I was crying. Even my eyes were swollen and I could feel them.
Man: "what happened here?"
The chief explained everything to him and he searched for some papers.
Man: "young man what is your name and age?"
Hun: "I'm Hun Whale 37".
Man: "ooooh Mr jnr Whale its you, well i wanted my daughter to get married to you but it seems like luck is not on my side and young lady?"
Me: "Royalty Nkhwa 24".
Man: "ok, sign here both of you. After that ypu can go and sit outside with your chief here".
Chief: "Thank you man".
We sat outside and I was still crying, I couldn't even talk to anyone because I was hurt beyond repair. How am I going to survive with this stranger here. Maybe when I get to where he lives I can look for a job and go and work, waiting for two years to pass then we can file for a divorce.
We want back home and I locked the doors and get a few of my clothes, especially the better ones of course. After that he drove to wherever him only knows. We arrived in Francistown and he took the road that takes us to some locations.
Me: "ypu stay in block 5?"
Hun: "do you really have to ask when you can see clearly that we are in block 5? Nxaaa".
OK, I guess someone is mad more than me or maybe not. He drove through the gate and parked the car in the garage. I got out as soon as he does so and followed him inside. I'm expecting to meet his family members, just anyone but nothing. I saw no one and the house shows that it's empty.
He went and sat down on the couch and I just couldn't sit without being told to so I stood there looking at him. His phone started ringing and he answered with so much anger on his face.
Hun: (call conversation) "mma...yes mma...I don't know what you are talking about.....those are lies....so they couldn't just wait to tell you huuh...I'm not married ok, I'm going to marry Boitumelo you know I love her....it doesn't matter now does it....cool.....what do you want me to say?.....OK bye."
As soon as he dropped the call he looked at me with so much annoyance in his eyes.
Hun: "chat are you looking at? There is a cottage behind the house ypu will stay there or rather upu will be sleeping there because your whole day ypu will be in here cleaning, cooking and washing."
Me: "like, I'm your maid huuuh?"
Hun: "yes"
Me: "How much will you be paying me? I mean a maid gets paid for working".
Hun: "ypu will get P200 per month so that you will be able to buy toiletry otherwise if it wasn't for that I wasn't gonna give you any money".
Me: "but P200 is nothing, it can't even buy enough toiletry".
Hun: "for a village girl it can actually buy enough toiletry for a month and you will even be left with change".
Me: "I guess I'll have to look for another job while working here this month".
I said exiting his house and I heard him shouting saying....
Hun: "ypu wouldn't dare, if i get arrested you will see my true colours!"
OMG, dude loves swearing shame, I got to the cottage and it's not bad at all. It's a two roomed cottage, a bedroom with a toilet and bathroom then a dining that is half a kitchen also. I decided to sleep a little then when I wake up I dusted the place more like cleaning. When I finished I went to the main house and the boss was sitting on the couch but hale had changed in pj's which means he bathed.
Me: "what am I supposed to cook boss?"
Hun: "don't call me boss or otherwise you will get used to it and it will get me in trouble and only you eill pay if my mother hear you calling me boss."
Me: "oooh sorry, I forgot she knows ypu are married".
Hun: "who told you that she knows this nonsenseof a marriage?"
Me: "well I figured from your call".
Hun: "don't you ever, I mean it, don't you ever eavesdrop on my calls, stupid girl".
Me: "loud and clear".
Hun: "just cook pap and we will eat with madila because I'm sure that is the only thing you can cook and I'll be able to stomach it". (mass or lacto milk)
Me: "ok".
*A FEW DAYS LATER*
Me: "it's past 11pm for goodness sake, why are you buzzing Mt phone like a landlines phone at work? I knocked off at 8 pm sir".
I said as soon as I picked the call when I saw that its Hun calling. I wonder why he is calling me this late or even calling me alone. I mean the time I gave him my number he wanted to send me money to buy toiletry that's why he has it.
Hun: "bring your toiletry bag and two dresses and two pairs of shoes here, right now please ill explain when you are here".
And he dropped the call. This man is so unbelievable. As stupid as I'm I took what he said I should take and went to the main house where I found the door opened and I just get in andbclosed.
Hun: "come upstairs to my room."
I went upstairs to his room and I found him in bed and he looks just fine.
Me: "what happened?"
Hun: "my parents are just 5 minutes away from arriving here, please get into bed because my mom can just bust in here and you won't be able to explain why....".
Me: "oooh Hun you are unbelievable, so you are trying to tell me that whenever your parents comes here ill have to come and move in here with you, share the sane bed and bathroom as long as they are till here?".
Hun: "I'm glad I don't have to explain all this this time".
Me: "don't boast your ego, you have never had to explain any shit to me, I understand your deep and hard English very well, I'm not dumb and stupid".
Hun: "ok fine, please I'm asking you very nicely. I'm not in the mood for my mother's shouting and lectures please I have a lot in my plate and her...."
Me: "ok fine, ypu will sleep on the couch I'm not going to share a bed with you especially today".
Hun: "what, why?".
Me: "man I don't know you, what if you are lying and you just want to strangle me when I fall asleep. Never, justive".
Hun: "what are we going...".
Me: "leave that to me, just move to the couch with your sheet ill getba clean one. I can't sleep smelling your sh*t sweat on those sheets."
He just looked at me unable to say anything, he went to the couch and I took a clean sheet from the top of the wardrobe and get in bed.
"Hey my baby I'm here please come". A voice shouted from downstairs and I looked at Hun who is not moving even an inch.
This man is too much. "Why ain't you going to her, you want her to come here and...." The door flung open and our eyes met. O.M.G. please tell me I'm not dreaming.
