Emma Evans POV
"Give it back!" I screamed at Tommy Jenkins, jumping as high as I could to reach my favorite doll. But Tommy was seven and taller than me, and he held Princess Sparkles way up in the air where I couldn't grab her.
"Make me, baby!" Tommy laughed, dancing around the playground with my doll. "Cry baby Emma needs her stupid toy!"
My chest felt hot and tight, like when I had the fever last week. But this was different. This felt like lightning was bouncing around inside my ribs.
"She's not stupid!" I yelled, my voice coming out funny and deep. "Give her back right now!"
The other kids at Pine Ridge Elementary stopped playing and stared at us. Some of them looked scared, but I didn't know why. I was just mad that Tommy took Princess Sparkles during break.
"What are you gonna do about it?" Tommy said, holding my doll even higher. "Tell your mommy? Oh wait, I forgot - you don't even have a real daddy!"
That's when something inside me burst.
