"She must've taken most nutrients than her brother." A relative commented about Shine while watching her from a distance.
"Well it was an unexpected twins, you know. They were just expecting a baby girl and now they had another boy again." Their family and even their whole clan had few boys in each generation. Even for Lauri, this kind of conversations was normal.
It was during a holiday that was hosted at their house when the twins were six. It was when Ray's health improved a little and got a chance to greet them. "He was a miracle, him being alive is a miracle enough." Another relative replied.
"Yeah but will he last though. I'm not trying to jinx anyone, but his health is concerning—" She didn't get to finish her sentence when she noticed Shine glance at them, for a moment she felt bad to talk about a child that way.
Ever since the event, their conversations were etch on the little girls mind who heard it all. Their loud exchange of blaming her for her brother's illness. Whenever his brother got sick ever since, Shine would always expect them to blame her even though her family never blame her. The scars left by the remarks of their relatives remains in her heart.
This also distance her from her twin brother Ray and became a wall between her and Mistane seven years ago. She was very fond of her since she was the youngest daughter back then. For some reason, Mistane was never hated for being a first born daughter and an only child at the time. "Maybe because she was still small, and small kid are cute."
Shine was still hoping they'll come to accept her one day, she never connected her being from a richer family side. She just think she was a kid. Even thought Mistane was cold and never speak or cry, they get along just fine. She was the only person Mistane was closest as a kid, until she heard her relatives conversations.
She never view them as just kids with difficulties anymore. She was full of negative thoughts about herself to the point that she pushed her twin brother away as well as Mistane. It was at this time she poured all her time taking care of their little brother Rye who was just two years old at that time.
Unfortunately, she completely shut herself away from them even more when she heard of the news of Mistane's accident. Her twin reached out to her so many times only to be given a cold shoulder affecting his emotions and health even more.
"Do you think he will forgive me?" Shine asked hopelessly. "Who, Mistane? Lauri asked confused. "Did you do anything that needs forgiveness, anything wrong?" Larcy asked as well. "Anything that goes against morals or mortal laws?"
"No..." Feeling like her head is going to break, she just gives up again and stops overthinking things. "Huh" The two became even more confused. "That's such a vague answer." Lauri don't know if her "No" was for her question or for Larcy's.
"What do you mean no?" Lauri doesn't like a vague reply as an answer. *Sigh* Somehow, Shine was not in the mood to explain herself, putting her big sister on a pedestal.
*Klang* Larcy heard the sound of metal as if it fell down to something. Her two sisters who were arguing seems to not noticed the sound. "What's that sound, did someone bump on something?" Wanting to satisfy her curiosity she came out through the backdoor of the main kitchen.
"Now where is that thing?" She heard an angry voice rummaging the pile of metals with his feet, kicking the scrap metals. "Looking for something, Sir Luke?" Larcy asked as she scanned the surroundings.
"Larcy!" He exclaimed. "What are you doing here, dear? It's dangerous. Careful not to step on an pointed out nail." He worriedly instructed her. "Oh i heard the commotion, is there maybe something i could help you with?" She gave him an innocent reply. "It's nothing, Dear, really. Whatever it is i forgot what i was looking for. Anyhow it will eventually show up itself. "
His words don't seem believable, even he does not believe himself. Yet he consider it sold, seeing Larcy gave him a smile. A smile that was cut short instantly. "Eventually show up itself, huh?" Larcy said as she pinch her chin with her left hand while being supported by the other as if pondering what he just said.
"...Ahaha... Haa." His laughter was dry, making their current situation felt awkward. "If your not hidding something, you would not be this bothered with my reply. Hmm, what is it?" Larcy pondered in her head. "My guts are telling me it is something important, and i might already know what it is. But which one of what i know it is?"
At the left side garden...
Little Pie is being buried peacefully and someone is cooking something in the depths of their mind.
