Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 31:REFUSAL

Chapter 31 Refusal

just as Chasel Mills pulled his gaze away from the giant poster of Charlotte Walker, a group of people walked into the hotel.

Leading the group was a beautifully dressed woman. However, her beauty seemed more the result of cosmetic enhancements than natural charm. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that her looks were due to a bit of work and makeup.

The woman was directing a few people who were carrying various pieces of filming equipment. These high-end devices were delicate and needed to be handled with care. The individuals carrying them looked a bit awkward, struggling to manage the load.Noticing Chasel Mills staring at the Charlotte Walker poster, the woman called out, "Hey, are you a fan of President Walker? These items are needed for her press conference. Can you help us move them?"

Chasel Mills turned to look at her, completely unfazed. "If you need help, you should use the word 'please.' It's basic courtesy," he replied coolly.

The woman, Remi, frowned, a flash of irritation crossing her face. "I'm Cecilia Clarke, President Walker's assistant. Now, I'm asking you to help us move this equipment. Is that okay?"

Cecilia Clarke spoke again, revealing her identity. In her eyes, since this person had been staring at Charlotte Walker's poster, he must be just another young admirer of President Walker. Once she introduced herself, he would surely come running to flatter her.

Of course, Cecilia was discerning about whom she spoke to. She had ambitions of marrying into a wealthy family, so she had done her homework on the elite of Verdant City. Even for those from less prestigious backgrounds, she had a general idea of who they were.

With her position as Charlotte Walker's assistant, she had managed to attract the attention of several well-off second-generation heirs. However, when she saw Chasel Mills, he left no impression on her at all, and she quickly categorized him as an ordinary person.Otherwise, she would have been more polite in her conversation.

"No way!" Chasel Mills shook his head, refusing.

"You...!" Cecilia Clarke was nearly furious.

In the past, when people learned that she was Charlotte Walker's assistant, most would eagerly try to win her over, even going so far as to flatter her in hopes of building a connection.

Although she often looked down on the backgrounds of most of these people, Cecilia still enjoyed the feeling of being admired and sought after.

Over the years, Cecilia Clarke had grown accustomed to the feeling of being adored, thanks to her position as Charlotte Walker's assistant. However, now that she had revealed her identity, this person not only refused to flatter her but outright rejected her?

Cecilia could hardly believe her ears. "You... are you sure you didn't misspeak?" she reiterated, looking down at Chasel Mills with an air of superiority.

Chasel Mills frowned slightly. "I usually don't repeat myself," he said. "But if you're having trouble hearing, I can make an exception and say it again."

If it were anyone else, he would have helped. Even if Cecilia was Charlotte Walker's assistant and the equipment was meant for Charlotte, Chasel would have been willing to assist if Cecilia had approached him with humility. But he had no patience for arrogance.

"Do you know who I am? I'm Charlotte Walker's assistant, President Walker's assistant! How dare you speak to me like that?" Cecilia exploded.

"Sorry," Chasel Mills replied coolly.

"Do you think a simple apology will cut it?" At these words, Cecilia Clarke's expression softened slightly, but as she had just said, it was impossible to resolve everything with just an apology.

Did she really look that easy to bully?

"This apology isn't for you; it's for myself,"Chasel Mills said calmly, looking straight at Cecilia. "I shouldn't have bothered with a bully like you."

That was a humiliation he needed to address.

With that, Chasel turned away.

He refused to engage with Cecilia any further.

"Stop right there! Who do you think you are to insult me?" This time, Cecilia was genuinely furious.

If members of high society rejected her or even insulted her, she could tolerate it; after all, they were people she couldn't afford to offend.

But this guy in front of her? What was he even worth? How dare he refuse her?

How dare he insult her?

Moreover, there were her staff and hotel employees in the lobby, all watching.

Where would she put her face?

Yet, just as he had said, Chasel truly ignored her, treating her like the bully she was, even as Cecilia fumed.

Chasel Mills continued walking toward the elevator without missing a beat.

Seeing that he was ignoring her, Cecilia Clarke's anger boiled over.

She quickly stepped in front of him, blockinghis path.

"Today, if you don't apologize to me, I'll make sure you regret it. Do you believe me?"

Cecilia's face was icy.

She had always admired Charlotte Walker's haughty queen-like demeanor, finding it captivating.

So, she had been trying to emulate Charlotte's attitude.

Now, standing in front of Chasel, she wanted to project that same cold, commanding presence that made men want to grovel at her feet.

Even in her anger, she aimed to maintain an air of elegance. However, the words that came out of her mouth felt crude and awkward, making her seem out of place.

Yet, Cecilia felt good about herself, even enjoying the moment a little.

"Move aside!"

Chasel Mills frowned again, his voice turning icy.

A person should know their limits.

If they didn't, he wouldn't hesitate to teach them a lesson, even if it was a woman.

"If you don't kneel and apologize to me today, this isn't over." Cecilia gritted her teeth, her determination unwavering.

But in the next moment...

Slap!

A crisp sound of a slap echoed through the air, leaving a clear handprint on Cecilia Clarke's face."Now, can you step aside?" Chasel Mills said calmly.

"You... you dare hit me? Do you know who I am?" Cecilia's eyes widened in disbelief as she covered her stinging cheek.

"You are Charlotte Walker's assistant. I don't like repeating myself, and I certainly don't like others repeating the same things to me."

With that, he delivered another slap.

"Now, can you move?" Chasel Mills said flatly.

He noticed the elevator had arrived.

The hotel staff at the front desk, along with Cecilia's entourage, were all staring wide-eyed, just like Cecilia.Who is this guy?

How dare he hit Charlotte Walker's assistant?

This was practically a slap in Charlotte Walker's face, especially right here at the hotel where she was about to hold a signing event.

Is this guy out of his mind?

Even the second-generation elites of Verdant City wouldn't stoop to such behavior.

At that moment, the elevator chimed.

The doors opened.

A well-dressed young man stepped out.

"Cecilia Clarke, I'm here to pick you up."As soon as he spotted Cecilia's back, he quickly walked over.

Hearing his voice, Cecilia, who had been dazed from the earlier slap, suddenly snapped back to reality.

Tears immediately streamed down her face.

"Mr. Lewis, he hit me!"

Cecilia turned to face the newcomer, her tears flowing freely, making her look utterly pitiful.

Austin Lewis noticed the red mark on Cecilia's cheek and the tears in her eyes. He immediately stepped forward and pulled her into his arms.

Inside, he felt a rush of triumph. This woman had always kept him at arm's length; every time he tried to get closer, she would play hard to get.

But she was also Charlotte Walker's assistant, so he couldn't force the issue.

Now, he finally had his chance.

If he played his cards right and showed Cecilia his capabilities, maybe tonight he could win her over.

Immediately, Austin Lewis turned to Chasel Mills and said, "Are you out of your mind?"
